Linden school creates rewards program to promote good habits

LINDEN -

A Linden middle school has created a rewards program to help promote good education habits.

Students at Soehl Middle School can join the “Tiger Club” and earn gold or platinum reward cards for their achievements.

They must maintain their grades and attendance and can then earn a variety of rewards, such as raffles for movie tickets, gift cards or restaurant coupons. Some students will even get to skip the lunch line.

"Some of our high-achieving students, they're in the shadows. Like any student, they can be a bit shy,” says history teacher Peter Citera. “When they're wearing the platinum or gold card, they have teachers who see them wearing these cards…and they're congratulating them. They’re giving them this limelight that they really deserve. It's improving leadership skills in several of the students."

School officials say that the program is meant to reward good school habits using community sponsors.
