WAYNE -

Police in Wayne say a man from Paterson collecting a debt behind a shopping center beat the debtor and robbed him of $100.

According to the victim, he met with Anthony Ferguson, 35, behind the shopping center at Preakness and Valley roads to fix an unspecified debt.

The victim told police Ferguson said the amount changed due to a ‘late fee,’ and began punching him in the head and face.

Ferguson was arrested Friday and released on bail.

He is facing assault charges.
