Cooks put recipes to the test in Soup Takedown competition

Sunday's weather provided a fitting backdrop as home cooks put their recipes to the test in a Soup Takedown competition in Greenpoint.
Twelve cooks faced off in the event.
The event all started 15 years ago in Williamsburg when a group of cooks competed to make the best homemade chili. Since then, home cooks have been whipping up dishes to compete for fancy prizes from Cuisinart.
This month at the Brooklyn Bazaar, the takedown was soup-related. The only rule: contestants need to be home cooks who make meals in the comfort of their own kitchen.
People from across the neighborhood and the city got a chance to taste the soups and pick their favorite.
Next month will be a mac-and-cheese takedown.
