Two children were critically injured when they were struck by a car while walking with their grandmother.
Keyport police say that 59-year-old Debbie Triano was walking with her grandchildren on Main Street a little after 3 p.m. Tuesday when they were struck by a 2008 Acura driven by 22-year-old Kathy Ascolese. Police say Triano was pushing one of the children in a baby stroller/car seat, which became dislodged and became airborne and landed a “substantial distance” away.
The Acura then struck a utility pole about a block away.
Police say that Triano, her grandchildren, Ascolese and a child inside the car were all taken to the hospital for treatment. The two grandchildren are listed in critical condition with multiple injuries, according to police.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to contact the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 800-533-7443 or Keyport Police Department at 732-264-0706.
