A 51-year-old man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer Tuesday night after he got out of his vehicle following a prior crash on Interstate-287.

New Jersey State Police say that the crash happened around 11:20 p.m. in the southbound lanes, near the Route 17 split in Mahwah.

Police say John Neumayer, of Wantage, was involved in another crash and was exiting his Hyundai when he was struck by the truck in the travel lane. Neumayer died at the scene, according to police.
