P.S. 217 in Flatbush is giving students another reason to look forward to the end of the week, and it has nothing to do with being dismissed.

Every Friday, fourth-­ and fifth-graders get to take part in one of the various arts programs at the school.

At the beginning of the year, students choose what they'd like to take part in, including things like rock band, chorus or the theater program where they're currently rehearsing "The Cat in the Hat. 

Both teachers and students agree it's a fun way to enhance their learning.

"We're just kind of sitting at a desk and kind of writing things down and learning, but I think we need a little kind of creative outlet," says student Alma Loeb.
