A church in Bensonhurst opened its doors for the first time in 15 years for service Sunday.

The New Utrecht Reformed Church closed down after getting a notice that it had a compromised roof in 2003. The church still held services in a parish house next door while the main sanctuary underwent extensive renovations.

The church also faced fundraising obstacles.

Services have resumed despite repair work not being fully completed, with an organ waiting to be re-installed.
