Six years after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, a group gathered at the United Methodist Church in Port Washington to remember the 26 children and teachers lost in the mass shooting.
The vigil was hosted by the Nassau Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. It's an effort to focus on the lives lost to gun violence since the shooting at Sandy Hook.
Organizers say they've made progress toward changing gun laws on the state level, but they have been frustrated that there has been little change nationally since the shooting. They vow to keep fighting.
Also Friday, a bomb threat forced the evacuation of Sandy Hook Elementary. Teachers and students were sent home for the day after threat was called in around 9 a.m. Police made a sweep of the building and found nothing. Detectives say the threat was not credible.
