Police say a Greenwich woman tried to force-feed a 17-month-old child at a day care.
Officials say the incident happened at YMCA Early Learning Center at the corner of Hamilton and St. Roch avenues.
Police say 56-year-old Karen Von Tobel turned herself in Wednesday after a co-worker recorded the incident back on Oct. 16. A week later the Department of Children and Families gave its report to police. Von Tobel is facing risk of injury charges.
Police described what was on the 20-minute video, which has not been released.
"Throughout the duration of the video, you can actually see the worker trying to force a spoon of food into the child's mouth.  You can see the child crying hysterically. The worker had to actually restrain the child's hands in order to try and put the spoon in his mouth,” says Greenwich Police Capt. Robert Berry.
Police say the child was not hurt.
Von Tobel was released on a $25,000 bond and is due in court next week.
Officials from the YMCA were not available for comment.
Her lawyer says she was suspended and then fired after the incident. The lawyer says Von Tobel has worked at the YMCA Early Learning Center for the past several years and says she had just been given a promotion.
