A lucky group of Bridgeport students is getting the chance to see the award-winning show “Hamilton” in Hartford.
On a whim, 10th-grade English teacher at Bullard-Havens Technical High School Keli Russell says she entered her school in a “Hamilton” lottery.
"I applied and never thought anything about it ever again until I got a phone call on Thursday at 4:45 p.m. that we were in," says Russell.
Tickets for the show start at $200 but these students are only paying $10.
"They're all so excited," Russell says. "And they get to dress up and go to the theater, which a lot of them never have the opportunity to do."
The students say they've never been so excited to learn.
"I wouldn't really think of learning history via music," says Jonathan Quintanila. "Usually it would be in a boring textbook way."
Other students say they're excited to learn the story of Alexander Hamilton.
"I hope to learn about Alexander Hamilton's life, how the government used to work back then,"  says Marcus Winer.
After seeing the show himself, state Sen. Dennis Bradley was happy to provide their transportation.
"I wish everyone could go see it, but I'm really excited these young high school students have the opportunity to go watch it," Bradley says.
The students will be joined by 18 chaperones who are just as excited to see the show.
