Residents say limited spaces in the Glen Cove train station parking lots has become a frustrating issue.
News 12 was there Tuesday morning. Cars were seen parked on grassy patches and no spots were in sight.
Mayor Tim Tenke says he directed city police to start cracking down on a law that went into effect in 2015. It prohibits non-city residents from parking on the westbound side in Glen Cove's three Long Island Rail Road lots.
"There's only about a handful of cars that were nonresidents using those parking areas. So, it seems to me that the increase in parking has come from the residents,” says Tenke. "Once we had the enforcement taking place, some spots did open up."
The mayor says that if the problem persists, he may consider paving over grassy areas in an effort to create more parking spots.
Any non-city residents parking in the lots face a $200 fine.
