'They just made joy in my life': Mother heartbroken over loss of 2 girls killed in fire

A mother is faced with the heartbreaking loss of her two young daughters who died in a fire in Bushwick over the weekend.
The two sisters, 9-year-old Hayley Harris and 7-year-old Payton Gomez, were spending the weekend at their grandfather's apartment as they did every weekend.
Authorities say the building at 165 Shaffer St. went up in flames Saturday night. Firefighters removed the girls and their grandfather from the building. Their grandfather survived, but the two girls did not.
Renita Gomez, the victims' mother, remembers the girls’ different personalities.
"One was quiet, mature -- kind of goofy, but when they got together, they just made joy in life," Gomez says.
Family members tell News 12 that the grandfather had lost his wife back on Dec. 9, 2016. His two granddaughters were pronounced dead on the same day exactly two years later.
The cause of the fire is still uncertain, investigators say.
