Gov. Phil Murphy is giving legislators a deadline to get a minimum wage bill on his desk and ready to sign by the end of December. And while he is in the same party as the Democrat-controlled Legislature, who generally agree on a minimum wage hike, the different sides are getting caught up in the details. Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin is reportedly drafting a bill now, by way of compromise, that will increase the wage for certain jobs at a slower rate than others.
