Police: Suspect in custody after police chase that ended in the Bronx

A car chase Sunday morning involving multiple law enforcement agencies landed one Westchester County Police officer in the hospital and one person in custody at Westchester County Police Headquarters in Hawthorne.
Officials say that it all began when a man reportedly stole an illegal cab in Mount Vernon and it ended at a home across the county line in the Bronx with a suspect in NYPD custody.
Officials say Mount Vernon police were alerted to a stolen vehicle around 9:30 a.m. Police then attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to pull over.
They say the car entered the southbound Hutchinson River Parkway before rear-ending a Westchester County police patrol car and kept going.
The vehicle came to a stop on Boston Post Road in Pelham where the male driver took off on foot. A female passenger was taken into custody at the scene and a manhunt was launched.
The driver was apprehended while he was hiding in a shed just a mile from the abandoned vehicle after 11 a.m.
A female passenger was determined to be a victim in the situation and released. The suspect who has yet to be identified will be transferred to Mount Vernon City Court Monday morning where he will be arraigned.
