700 volunteers ‘freezin’ for a reason’ at Brookhaven Polar Plunge

Hundreds of swimmers took a daring dip Saturday for a good cause.
Seven-hundred people plunged into the Long Island Sound during the ninth annual Brookhaven Polar Plunge.
The annual event at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai benefits the Special Olympics, an organization that supports athletes with disabilities.
“It's great for Special Olympics,” says one participant. “My buddy Peter is a lexical Olympic golfer and a swimmer, and they could use all the help they could get. So why not? It's a good cause and a chance to do something fun for a good cause.”
This year's Polar Plunge is expected to raise around $140,000.
