Officials: Kite surfer dies after being pulled from water

HIGHLANDS -

Police say a kite surfer died Saturday in Monmouth County.

A spokesperson for the Gateway National Recreation Area says a call went out for a kite surfer in need of help. The person, who has not yet been identified, was pulled from the water in Highlands.

The Coast Guard, National Park Service and EMS responded.

Crews tried CPR, but couldn't revive the person.

The cause is under investigation.
