Corrections officers rally at State House for new contract

State correctional police officers rallied in front of the New Jersey State House Monday in an effort to get a new contract.
The correctional and parole officers have been working without a contract for the last three years.
The “Rally for Respect” aimed to pressure Gov. Phil Murphy to agree to a new deal, which includes raises and pay for back wages.
PBA 105 president Brian Renshaw says that low pay means that officers are leaving the ranks at an alarming rate.
“People forget about us. We have a thankless job, no doubt about it. These people protect the citizens of New Jersey day in and day out and we deserve fair wages,” he says.
The union says that it wants the 2 percent raise that state workers received when their contract dispute was settled this spring.
A spokesperson for the state Department of Corrections says that the agency does not comment on contract negotiations.
