Brownsville street co-named in honor of fallen hero mother

A street in Brooklyn is now named after a mother who many call a hero.
Zurana Horton, a mother of 12, was fatally shot in October 2011.
Horton, 34, was shot while protecting children from gunfire that erupted near P.S. 298 on Watkins Street in Brownsville.
The street where it all happened is being co-named to Zurana Horton Way.
Horton’s mother Denise tells News 12 that the co-naming is a beautiful way to honor her daughter.
" …Everybody that knows her, they will remember her,” she says. “She will always be remembered."
Horton's convicted killer, Andrew Lopez, was sentenced in 2013 to 55 years-to-life behind bars.
