Thousands of bus shelters closed after Staten Island collapse

Thousands of bus shelters across the city are closed Tuesday after one of them collapsed on Staten Island.
The MTA says 1,400 shelters where commuters can either sit or stand under while waiting for the bus are closed due to safety concerns.
An MTA spokesperson says the company which manages the shelters has begun inspections and repairs of over 3,500 shelters.
The shelter management company reported inspecting 1,000 shelters and finding corrosion of bolts which posed safety concerns.
The company says it replaced the bolts and reopened the shelters, but many thousands more must be inspected.
Inspections should be done in about a week and any corresponding repairs will be completed in a month, officials say.
