A community in New Jersey is coping with the loss of a well-known pizzeria owner, but his memory lives on at the store he bought 31 years ago when he was still in high school.
Steve Renke was known as the pizza guy in Demarest, but there was more about him than just pizza.
Renke was a former football player at Old Tappan, a husband, father, and role model in the community.
Renke had that work ethic ingrained in him since high school.
His football coach called him a silent leader.
He was part of the sectional title team back in 1985 at Old Tappan.
Moira, his wife, did not want to discuss the details surrounding Renke 's death.
He was only 49, leaving behind two sons and a daughter.
Everyone says they'll miss his selflessness.
He used to feed the local sports teams and the marching band, his friends say, free of charge.
Demarest Pizza used to be called Pizza Express.
Renke was on the same sectional title team at Old Tappan as Sen. Cory Booker.
