Exact change lanes beginning to disappear on parkway

Exact change lanes, as well as the automatic coin machines, are now gone at the Essex and New Gretna toll plazas on the Garden State Parkway.
Crews are working to remove the lanes from all the main toll plazas.
The baskets were removed last week from the Pascack Valley and Cape May plazas.
The exact change machines on entrance and exit ramps are sticking around.
The Turnpike Authority will use the parts from all 37 removed machines if any repairs are needed on the other machines.
There were nearly a quarter of a billion transactions made last year in toll plazas.
More than 4 in 5 were made with E-ZPass, just over 10 percent in cash, and fewer than five percent were paid in the coin lanes.
