Many New Jersey residents might say that they are overworked, underpaid and busy all of the time.
So it should not come as a surprise that a recent study found that New Jersey is ranked No. 1 as the most stressed out state in the country.
The career site Zippia used certain criteria to reflect how sleepless people are in order to measure how stressed out a state was. The criteria consisted of commute times, unemployment rates, hours worked in a day, home price to income ratio and population density.
News 12 New Jersey spoke with some New Jerseyans who say that they are not surprised by the study.
“Life is such a fast pace. Work is pressure,” said one New Jersey resident.
So how do New Jersey residents deal with stress?
One man told News 12 that he was speaking with a therapist. Another said that he likes to consume alcohol with his family. Another person said that he goes running – and in fact has ran every day for the last five years.
But News 12 also spoke with one New Jersey residents who says that he does not let the everyday stresses of life get him down.
“I just approach my life differently. I don't think it's worth my time or energy to be stressed by all the things that we run into,” he said.
But although many said that they were stressed out living in New Jersey, they said that it has made them stronger.
“We’re used to getting up and doing,” said one woman. “We do have that sense of urgency.”
According to the study New Jersey was followed by Georgia, Florida, California, and New York at the top of the list. The least stressed states are Iowa, Minnesota, and the Dakotas.
