The New Jersey Department of Health is reporting that a traveler with measles recently made his way through Terminal B at Newark Liberty International Airport, potentially exposing other travelers.
Officials say that the man is a traveler from Israel and arrived in Newark on a flight from Tel Aviv Friday, Sept. 28. Anyone who was inside Terminal B between 5:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. may have been exposed.
The person also traveled to Rockland County, New York. There were no other exposures in New Jersey.
Symptoms may develop as late as Oct. 19. Symptoms include rash, high fever, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes.
Measles can cause serious complications like pneumonia and swelling of the brain. This is especially true for anyone with a weakened immune system.
Anyone who thinks that they were exposed and displaying symptoms should contact their doctor or a hospital before leaving their home. This will prevent possible exposure to others.
This is not the first time Newark Liberty has seen measles exposure. In March, a child who flew from Belgium, to Newark, to Memphis was treated for the measles. Passengers on that flight were notified.
