People are drying out all around New Jersey this morning from an afternoon and evening of drenching rain and flooding.
In Secaucus, a dozen homes within two blocks took on water, and some homeowners had up to three feet of water in their basements.
A pumping station at the end of the block took water from storm drains and sent it out to nearby streams and the Hackensack River, but it was overwhelmed by all the rain.
"Everything just came up everybody's backyards flooded out,” says resident Mark Zaremba. “Both sides of the street. And unfortunately we got water in our houses."
Flooding brought Jersey City to a virtual standstill in some areas, including Routes 1 and 9 at 440.
Cars became stuck in the high water near Communipaw Avenue.
There were several rescues in Bayonne as people became trapped in high water, including JFK Boulevard at First Street, beneath the Bayonne Bridge.
Bayonne's Office of Emergency Management said firefighters had to pull motorists from their stranded cars.
