Bridgeport proposal would create housing for Sacred Heart students

Neighbors are divided over a plan to build an apartment building in Bridgeport catering to college students.
The plan went before a zoning commission Monday night, where dozens of people made their opposition to the student housing development known.
The property on Park Avenue is currently home to the Monticello Apartments, but developers want to tear that down. The new complex would cater to students at nearby Sacred Heart University.
Concerned neighbors say the area already has traffic and parking congestion due to the number of students.
One woman who lives in the Monticello Apartments says the possibility of the building being torn down is news to her. She says people have still been signing leases to live there.
No decision was made on the plan Monday night. Instead, it was tabled while a traffic study is completed.
