US sailor from NJ stationed in Virginia killed in accident
A United States sailor from New Jersey has died in an accident aboard the U.S.S. George HW Bush, which was stationed off the coast of Virginia.
The United States Navy says that Joseph Naglak died Monday after being hit by a turning airplane propeller.
The 21-year-old enlisted in the Navy last year and was assigned to the ship four months after completing his training. The U.S.S. George HW Bush was one of 30 vessels moved into the Atlantic Ocean as Hurricane Florence was making its way toward the East Coast.
A statement posted on the U.S.S. George HW Bush’s Facebook page said in part, “Aviation Boatswain's Mate Airman Apprentice Joseph Naglak… lost his life while doing his job to ensure that naval aviators are safely trained to be worldwide deployable in support of our national defense. We offer our sincerest condolences to his family and friends."
The Navy did not release many details about the accident, but say that it is under investigation and that no other service members were hurt.
Naglak attended West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North.
