Local leaders praise MTA efforts, demand more services

The L train line will be closing for 15 months next April as repairs are made to the Canarsie Tunnel, and elected officials both praised the MTA and encouraged it to do better Monday evening.
The MTA says that with upcoming weekend closures, it has added several shuttle buses, including the L4. Transit officials say that bus will save North Brooklyn residents 20 minutes of commuting.
The L5, which was announced last week, will help customers in Canarsie get to their destinations.
But some officials say the effort still isn't enough.
Elected leaders say they believe more needs to be done before reconstruction begins in April, while the MTA says it continues to do outreach.
Leaders also say they want more high-capacity ferries, on which the MTA says it'll work.
Community members say that the MTA has done a lot to prepare the public beforehand.
