(AP) - Federal prosecutors say a couple and their adult son fraudulently exchanged more than $5 million in food stamps for cash at a New Jersey grocery store they operated.

Juan Perdomo, Maria Rodriguez and their son Jose Perdomo, were all charged Tuesday with fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. Prosecutors say the charges stem from years of transactions at M&R Supermarket in Newark, which Rodriguez owns.

Prosecutors say the illegal exchanges have occurred since October 2015. They cited the high volume of food stamp redemptions at the store and say an undercover agent made at least 11 "purchases" at the store in which Juan Perdomo or Jose Perdomo allegedly exchanged cash for food stamp benefits.

It wasn't known Wednesday if the Perdomos have retained attorneys.
