Authorities say that skeletal remains have been found in a wooded area in Howell Township.
Howell police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office were on the scene Tuesday near Ramtown-Greenville Road, where the remains were discovered. It was not immediately clear if the remains were animal or human.
The remains were found by surveyors performing bridge work. The section of the road was already closed due to the bridge collapse that happened in August during the flooding rains.
A spokesperson for the county prosecutor says that a New Jersey State Police anthropologist and the medical examiner were coming to the scene to assist with the investigation.
