Governor Phil Murphy signed a bill on Saturday to protect children better while they are riding the school.
The new law requires both lap and shoulder restraints, known as three-point seatbelts, to be installed on new school buses within 180 days.
Gov. Murphy says he signed the law for those who died in a bus crash while traveling on what should have been a routine field trip. On May 17, a bus filled with students from East Brook Middle School collided with a dump truck on Route 80 in Mount Olive, killing a fifth grader and her teacher, while dozens were injured.
