Officials made a water rescue off of Short Beach in Nissequogue Friday.
Police say Cortland Terris and Michael Small's canoe kept drifting Friday night and the men couldn't paddle back to shore because of heavy winds and rough seas.
News 12 is told the canoe eventually overturned.
Marine Bureau officers found the pair holding onto the canoe and a cooler and brought them safely back to land.
