Wolcott thief steals car while woman pumps gas

A thief needed only seconds to steal a car from an unsuspecting woman who was never more than 2 feet away from her vehicle.
Police say the woman parked at a gas pump around 10 p.m. at the Cumberland Farms at 1655 Meriden Road in Wolcott. She got out to fill up her tank when the suspect got in the driver seat and took off. The police chief says the woman never saw the suspect coming.
Video shows the suspect, dressed in black, get out of a light-colored Chevy parked nearby and run to the victim's car. The woman tried to open her passenger door as her car was being stolen, and she was dragged to the ground. She suffered minor injuries.
The stolen vehicle was last seen going west on Meriden Road.
Police warn drivers to remove their keys from the car when at a gas station.
