It hasn’t been an easy road for many women in the tattoo industry, which has traditionally been dominated by men.

Blue, an artist from New York City, says the industry is rapidly changing.

"People are noticing that there are more women in this industry. Some don’t like it, others embrace," she says.

For traveling artist Magdalena, it’s a chance to express herself and use her art to make people happy.

"I’m from Utah and the tattoo culture there is very different. I’m looked at as an outcast but when I travel to bigger cities like New York, it nice to see that there are women like me trying to make a mark in this industry," she says.

On the internet, female artists are able to connect and support each other like never before.
