Nassau police are making sure all children have all the supplies they need to get a proper start to the school year.
The Nassau Police Benevolent Association gave away thousands of backpacks Saturday in Westbury.
Each bag was packed with supplies to make sure kids have everything they need for the first day of class.
Nassau PBA President James McDermott tells News 12 that they handed out bookbags that contained supplies like pens, pencils, crayons and rulers.
Organizers say they hope these type of events will help foster a growing relationship between police and the community.
