A Bergen County school district will be hiring full-time armed guards come September.
The Fairview School district will have one officer stationed at each of the district's public schools once the new academic year begins.
School officials say they are doing this to protect students and staff from potential school shooters.
"These are professional retired police officers--recently retired-- who are well-trained and well-screened in order to be hired as a class three officer to protect the school," said Dr. David Sleppin, Fairview superintendent of schools.
The Board of Education and local authorities are working together in the hiring process.
