Community remembers Wayne-native killed in the line of duty

WAYNE -

A New Jersey-born police officer has died nearly a week after being shot in the line of duty while working in Florida.

Adam Jobbers-Miller, a former Wayne firefighter turned police officer in Fort Myers, Florida, died Saturday from line of duty injuries.

Jobbers-Miller grew up in Wayne. He served as a firefighter at Fire Company No. 2. He left in September 2015 to take a job as a police officer in Fort Myers.

It was in Fort Myers, on July 21, that he was on duty when a robbery took place at a gas station.

When Jobbers-Miller arrived at the scene, he attempted to arrest the suspect. The suspect then allegedly shot him in the head.

Other officers returned fire, wounded and captured the suspect.

Jobbers-Miller was in the hospital for a week with his injuries before he ultimately died.

Today the Wayne community and his former colleagues remember him. The flag is at half-staff and the bunting is up at Fire Company No. 2 in Wayne.

Service is a family tradition inside Jobbers-Miller's family. His father was the fire chief in the same department for 30 years.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
