Community comes together to help sisters affected by house collapse

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP -

The Mercer County community is coming together to help two young women who lost their mother and their home when the house collapsed.

Tika Justice was killed and her two daughters, ages 16 and 20 were injured when their home collapsed in Hamilton Township earlier this week. Officials say that severe water damage caused the house to collapse. Justice threw herself over her 16-year-old daughter in an effort to save her and was killed.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, the community came together to donate clothing, food and funds to the two sisters.

The group has collected about 61 bags of donated goods — 14 of which were given to the sisters Thursday.

St. Phillip’s Baptist Church and the Wilson Center will be collecting donations through Saturday, Aug. 4. The Wilson Center is accepting donations from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekdays. The church is taking donations weekday evenings and Saturday.

The sisters are staying with family members for the time being.

Funeral services for Justice are expected to be announced Friday. The service will take place at St. Phillip’s.
