Good news for 37 million Ford owners who were stuck waiting for parts needed to repair defective Takata airbags. They’ll be able to benefit from a new, $299 million class-action settlement, in which Ford will either provide loaner vehicles, or pay for out-of-pocket expenses until replacement parts are available and repairs can be made.
Alexis Rodrigues is one of the Ford owners who could benefit. She expected to be buying a dependable family car when she purchased her Ford Edge. But then she received the recall notice, saying the car had defective airbags and replacement parts would not be available until this fall.
“I can't use the car as a family car anymore because I'm afraid for my children's safety,” she says.
Models covered by the recall include:
  • 2007-2010 FORD Edge
  • 2006-2012 FORD Fusion
  • 2005-2006 FORD GT
  • 2005-2014 FORD Mustang
  • 2004-2011 FORD Ranger
  • 2007-2010 LINCOLN MKX
  • 2006-2012 LINCOLN Zephyr/MKZ
  • 2006-2011 MERCURY Milan
This settlement also requires Ford to go the extra mile in letting people know about the recalls and their ability to get reimbursed. This includes contacting owners through social media.
