Police: Crime spree suspects steal church van, crash into bus

Newark police say that two suspects accused of stealing a church van to commit a series of crimes were finally arrested after crashing into a New Jersey Transit bus.
Authorities say that the suspects stole a van used by the members of the Bethlehem Judah Christian Fellowship Church in Elizabeth to shuttle kids to field trips for summer camp. They allegedly used the van and two other vehicles to commit a series of crimes late Thursday night into early Friday morning.
Maplewood police officers recognized the stolen church van and began to chase the suspects. The chase led to Springfield Avenue and South 17th, where the van crashed into the NJ Transit bus.
The NJ Transit bus was headed to Newark Penn Station when it was struck. Police say the driver and nine passengers were taken to the hospital, but were not seriously injured.
Police have not released the names of the suspects or what charges they may face.
