Bridgeport firefighter wows judges on TV show 'Chopped'

A Bridgeport firefighter used his cooking skills to wow the judges on the TV show 'Chopped.'
Dan Brelsford is a professional Italian chef and a firefighter. He says when he's cooking at the firehouse it's usually simple dishes, but when competing on Tuesday's episode of 'Chopped' it was very different.
Brelsford's chocolate-cherry beignet with Sriracha-honey sauce is what put him through to the final round. He says the show's strict time limits and bizarre ingredients made for a challenge.
"A lot of luck goes into thinking of a good idea right off the bat, and a little bit of experience helps too," says Brelsford. "I've never worked with jalapeno cheesecake ice cream, but I've worked with jalapeno. I've worked with cheesecake, and I've worked with ice cream. So you have to be creative obviously and think on your feet."
Brelsford, who is also a chef at Consiglio's restaurant in New Haven, ended up winning last night's episode of 'Chopped.'
