Cyclists ride across NYC to raise autism awareness

Dozens of cyclists traveled 24 miles on Sunday to raise awareness for autism.
The annual "Bridges Ride for Autism" started and ended in lower Manhattan. Those who participated crossed five bridges and three boroughs, all to raise awareness and show support for families dealing with autism.
According to Autism Speaks, one in 59 children has autism.
Joe Nobile started the event eight years ago in honor of his nephew, who has autism. He hopes that the event spreads a better understanding of the disorder and that it helps kick-start research efforts.
"We want to say that there is going to be a cure for autism and right now we want to provide support for families who have children or family members with autism," Nobile said.
Organizers say the event has raised more than $100,000 for autism research over the years.
