Authorities identify deliveryman who was shot, struck tree

Police say a pizza deliveryman is dead after an apparent shooting and car crash overnight in Passaic.
Derby Almonte-Moore, 27, was found early Sunday morning with an apparent bullet wound after his Toyota Camry car hit a tree on Paulison Avenue. Authorities say they believe the crash happened after he was shot a short distance up the block before the crash, while making a pizza delivery.
The Elmwood Park man was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson and was pronounced dead shortly before 3 a.m.
News 12 is told that his death was a shock to his employers at Jumbo's Pizza in Wallington, who described the deliveryman as hardworking and honest.
The scene remained active late Sunday morning, with detectives walking up and down the street where the shooting is believed to have occurred.
Authorities have not said whether they believe the deliveryman was targeted in a robbery, but his death hit the close-knit neighborhood on Paulison Avenue hard. Some residents say they are worried for their safety, and put up security cameras in response to the incident.
