Hicksville man accused of assaulting girlfriend, shoving 1-year-old

A Hicksville man faced a judge Thursday after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and their 1-year-old daughter last month.
Police say Luis Urrutia, 30, was arguing with his 21-year-old girlfriend at their Hicksville home when he slashed her hand with a box cutter.
Investigators say Urrutia then ripped hair from the victim's head. When she tried calling police, he allegedly wrestled her cellphone away.
Police say Urrutia then shoved the couple's 1-year-old daughter to the ground, causing her to hit her head. They say Urrutia then fled the home on foot.
His girlfriend and daughter had to be taken to a hospital.
Police say when they found Urrutia Thursday, he resisted arrest and injured a detective in the process.
Urrutia is facing a list of charges that include assault, endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest.
At Urrutia's arraignment, his lawyer presented a different account of the ordeal. He said it was Urrutia's girlfriend who had the box cutter, and that she and the child were injured because he was trying to get the weapon out of her hands.
The judge set bond for Urrutia at $30,000.
