Lightning may be to blame for a fire that displaced a dozen people in Roselle.
A witness tells News 12 New Jersey that she saw a lightning bolt strike a four-family home on the 200 block of West First Avenue around 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The fire badly damaged the roof and the attic of the building, but residents were able to escape without injuries.
Fire officials say that unfortunately some of the family pets did not make it out of the building, which is currently uninhabitable.
The Roselle fire chief cannot confirm that lightning is to blame for the fire, but says that the cause is under investigation.
There were thunderstorms reported in the area at the time of the fire.
