The Suffolk SPCA says six decapitated chickens were found left in a wicker basket on a beach in Islip.

They say they were covered with blue fabric and surrounded with grain, fruit and candles.

An expert confirmed with the SPCA that it was a ritualistic sacrifice or offering to Yemaya, the Goddess of the Ocean and involves the dismemberment of chickens.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Suffolk SPCA at 631-382-7722.
