Mother threatened to punch police officer at softball game

Posted: Updated:
JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP -

Police in Jefferson Township say a mother of three who was asked to leave a youth softball game for bad sportsmanship is now being held in jail for threatening to punch a police officer.

According to police, the 41-year-old woman from Wharton was charged Monday with resisting arrest, aggravated assault on an officer at a sporting event and simple assault at a sports event.

Records show Officer Daniel Florio responded Monday afternoon to a report of an adult woman arguing with a coach at a youth softball game involving kids under the age of 16.

Officials say the woman then threw punches and threatened Florio.

The Record reports the mother was released Tuesday on conditions, and is due back in court on July 13.

AP wire services helped contribute to this report.
