Business Briefs: Toyota, Uber, Timeshifter

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK -

Toyota will reportedly buy a $1 billion stake in Singapore-based company Grab, which is currently valued at more than $10 billion. Grab is the largest ride-sharing company in the region. This deal marks the largest investment by a carmaker in any ride-sharing firm.

Uber's CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said he would support an additional cost to riders taking Ubers in New York City where the taxi business is more competitive. Khosrowshahi says technology has changed the industry and is in favor of a fee that would level the playing field.

Those that are sick of jet lag can now use a new app called Timeshifter. The app was developed in collaboration with Harvard Medical School scientists and aims to help frequent flyers and long-distance travelers fight daytime fatigue associated with crossing time zones. Users of Timeshifter have to let the app know where they're going and then the app will give tips on how to avoid jet lag. Timeshifter is available now in the Apple and Android app stores.
