A Brentwood man is charged with animal cruelty for allegedly starving his dog to the point that the animal could barely move.
Suffolk SPCA officials say an eight-month investigation led to the arrest of 47-year-old Willie Jordan. He is accused of failing to give his 2-year-old pit bull food or water.
Officials say that when the dog was taken to a veterinary hospital, he was thought to be dead. He was severely emaciated and could hardly move.
"Seeing the condition of this dog, think of the suffering -- how this dog suffered without food or water for God knows how long," says Suffolk SPCA Chief Roy Gross.
The pit bull, now named Mason, has found a loving new home. He was adopted by the vet technician who helped to save him.
Jordan is due back in court in August. If found convicted of animal cruelty, Jordan faces up to a year in jail.
