Authorities respond to bear sighting in Irvington

A bear was spotted climbing a tree in Irvington Friday morning.
Authorities were called to the site at Madison and Linden avenues.
Officials say bear sightings are common in town throughout the summer.
"They take a wrong turn and they find themselves in a congested area," said Mike Madonia, of NJ Fish and Wildlife. "Most of the time they can find their way out but for those few bears that get in a situation where they can't remove themselves, we'll go ahead and tranquilize and remove them for the safety of the bear and the public as well."
The bear was released on state property Friday night.
