A video of the arrest of a 20-year-old Philadelphia woman at a Wildwood beach over Memorial Day weekend has sparked debate about police procedures and how the citizens should act when interacting with officers.

The incident stemmed from Wildwood officers patrolling the beach looking for beachgoers who may have been consuming alcohol. Officers were even seen giving the woman a Breathalyzer.

Some of the rules Donohue found include: no eating peanut butter sandwiches, no walking on the beach after dark, no playing Frisbee, no kite-flying, no digging holes deeper than 12 inches and no “roughhousing.”

Many of the rules were put into place as safety precautions. But Donohue says that he suspects others were put into place so towns could get some revenue from fines.

New Jersey is also one of the few states where beachgoers must pay a fee to get on to the beach.
